Partner and Group Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Russell is a founding Partner of Equis and is responsible for fund raising, exits, new portfolio investments, business strategy and management. Prior to Equis, Mr. Russell spent 12 years with the Macquarie Group in Australia, South Korea and Hong Kong, playing a pivotal role in developing Macquarie’s Asian private equity and infrastructure businesses. As CEO and Representative Director, Mr. Russell established the Macquarie Korea Opportunities Fund, South Korea’s largest private equity fund at the time, the Macquarie Diversified Infrastructure Fund and Macquarie’s Greater China Infrastructure Fund, which was Macquarie’s joint venture with China Everbright Limited. Mr Russell left Macquarie as a Senior Managing Director, Head of Greater China and Asia Private Equity for Macquarie Capital Funds. Prior to Macquarie, Mr. Russell spent 5 years as an energy and utilities lawyer with Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom in the United States and Minter Ellison in Australia.
Mr. Russell holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Monash University and is admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia.
Partner and Head of North Asia
Mr. Ballin is a founding Partner of Equis. He has over 17 years of international energy and infrastructure fund and investment experience. Prior to Equis, Mr. Ballin was based in South Korea with the funds management division of Macquarie Bank where he was a key member of the team that created the Macquarie Korea Infrastructure Fund and served as the fund’s Head of Acquisitions. Prior to joining Macquarie’s funds management division, Mr. Ballin worked in the advisory group where he successfully completed a number of high profile transactions in Asia and Australia. Mr. Ballin also served as a Director and Board Member of Denham Capital Asia Pacific, where he successfully established the firm’s local operations and strategic direction in Asia.
Mr. Ballin holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Economics) and a Bachelor of Laws (Commercial and Securities Law) from Canterbury University.
Partner and Head of Philippines
Mr. Marsh joined Equis in 2014. Prior to Equis, he spent 14 years at Macquarie Group in Australia, South Korea, the Middle East and the Philippines, where he played a leading role in developing Macquarie's infrastructure advisory and principal businesses in these markets. Mr. Marsh has led, advised on and invested into transactions in the transportation, energy, logistics and social infrastructure sectors. He was instrumental in the establishment of Macquarie's Middle Eastern business, assisting in the creation of the Zonescorp Infrastructure Fund and the ADCB Macquarie Infrastructure Fund. He also led Macquarie Capital's infrastructure business in the Philippines and played a pivotal role in the growth of the Philippine Alliance for Investment in Infrastructure, a Philippine focused fund managed by the Macquarie Group.
Mr. Marsh holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia.
Partner and Head of Australia
Mr. Carmody is a founding Partner of Equis. He has over 23 years of international energy and infrastructure advisory, investment and fund management experience. Mr. Carmody previously worked at Denham Capital Asia Pacific as a Director and Board Member, and established its Singapore office with Adam Ballin. He has previously worked as a Senior Project Specialist and Principal Finance Specialist at the Asian Development Bank (“ADB”) focusing on renewable energy project development. Whilst at the ADB he also managed the Asia Pacific Carbon Fund. Mr. Carmody also had a successful career as a commercial lawyer working in private practice with top-tier law firms in Asia and the United Kingdom, most recently as a Partner in Baker & McKenzie’s Global Clean Energy and Climate Change Practice.
Mr. Carmody holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney, a Bachelor of Laws from the Australian National University and a Masters of Laws (Corporate and Commercial Law) from the University of New South Wales.

Mr. Comes is a founding Partner of Equis and is responsible for new portfolio investments, business strategy, fund raising and management. He has over 23 years’ experience in international finance, energy and infrastructure investment. Prior to founding Equis, Mr. Comes was the Head of Infrastructure and Principal Investments and a Senior Managing Director at Macquarie Securities Korea. Mr. Comes also worked in the Sydney and Wellington offices of Macquarie where he was responsible for originating and executing infrastructure transactions in the Asia-Pacific region.
Mr. Comes holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) with a Major in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master of Business Administration (Financial Engineering Track) from the Sloan School of Business, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Partner and Head of India
Mr. Chaudhary is a founding Partner of Equis. He has over 18 years’ experience across a variety of infrastructure planning and real estate development projects in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and the United Kingdom. He has led a number of notable private sector deals in India and has advised numerous state governments on infrastructure investment projects. Prior to joining Equis, Mr. Chaudhary was a Partner and Executive Director at Assetz Property Group. Prior to Assetz Property Group, he held a number of senior positions at Jones Lang LaSalle in Asia and the United Kingdom.
Mr. Chaudhary holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Masters of Arts in Geography from the University of Ajmer, and a Masters of Planning from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
Partner and Head of Indonesia & Thailand
Partner and Group General Counsel
Mr. Gibson is a Partner of Equis and oversees the legal affairs of Equis’ global activities. He joined Equis in 2015 as Group General Counsel, having acted as external counsel on the raising of the Equis Asia Fund in 2011. Prior to joining Equis Funds Group, Mr. Gibson was an equity partner at King & Wood Mallesons (having been a partner with SJ Berwin prior to the merger between SJ Berwin and King & Wood Mallesons in 2013) acting for private equity houses on the establishment and raising of private funds, with a specific focus on infrastructure funds. He also has extensive onshore and offshore experience having worked in London, the Cayman Islands, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Mr. Gibson holds a law degree from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom and practising certificates in each of England & Wales, the Cayman Islands and Hong Kong.
Mr. Sharma joined Equis India Advisors, in 2013 and is based in India. He has more than 17 years of energy and infrastructure experience across principal investments, EPC project execution and asset management of gas and coal fired plants and renewable energy. Prior to Equis, Mr. Sharma worked with General Electric (GE) for six years as part of its Energy Financial Services Group covering India, South Asia, Australia and the Middle East. Prior to GE, Mr. Sharma spent two years with ICICI Bank as part of its Project Finance Group managing the project finance cycle for large Indian greenfield power projects in India. Prior to ICICI, Mr. Sharma spent five years with Bechtel Corporation focused on EPC execution across US power projects and the implementation of energy efficiency projects.
Mr. Sharma holds a MBA in Finance and Strategy from the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, India and a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology - BHU, Varanasi, India - where he was honored with the "Institute Color" Award.
Mr. Pasricha joined Equis India Advisors in 2011. He has over 12 years of investment evaluation, structuring and direct asset investment experience. Prior to Equis, Mr. Pasricha was a Manager in the investments division for Assetz Group. Prior to that, he was a Senior Associate, Quantitative Research, for Infosys Technologies Limited.
Mr. Pasricha holds a Master of Finance and Control from University of Delhi, India and is a CFA charterholder.
Group Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Phoon joined Equis as Group Chief Financial Officer in 2015 and has over 22 years of experience in finance and audit. Prior to joining Equis, he was the CFO for Chandler Corporation in Singapore. Mr. Phoon spent nine years with KPMG in New York and Vietnam where he provided assurance services to financial institutions including banks, investment banks and broker-dealers and technical accounting advisory and guidance to KPMG’s assurance teams. He also spent six years as a technical accounting specialist in New York with Bank of New York and Morgan Stanley. As an Executive Director with Morgan Stanley, he specialised in the accounting for mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and corporate transactions which included the acquisition of Smith Barney, Discover Card spin-off and the IPO of MSCI Barra.
Mr. Phoon holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from Queensland University of Technology, Australia and is a certified practicing accountant in both the United States and Australia.
Group Chief Operating Officer
Ms. Interdonato joined Equis as Group Chief Operating Officer in 2012. She has over 21 years of experience in finance and operations with over 12 years’ experience in infrastructure and private equity funds. Prior to Equis, Ms. Interdonato was a Senior Vice President of Macquarie Capital Advisers in Dubai where she was responsible for business expansion and operations in the MENA region. Prior to this role, she worked within Macquarie Capital’s infrastructure and corporate advisory divisions in Singapore where she was the COO of the listed Macquarie International Infrastructure Fund. Ms. Interdonato also held the position of COO in Seoul, Korea where she was instrumental in the establishment and led the operations of the Macquarie Korea Opportunities Fund, South Korea’s largest private equity fund at the time, and the Macquarie Korea Infrastructure Fund, South Korea’s first infrastructure fund.
Ms. Interdonato holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from La Trobe University and a Master of Applied Finance from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
Sung Woo Yang
Director and Head of Taiwan
Mr. Yang joined Equis in 2011 and oversees the company’s operations in Thailand and Taiwan. He has over 13 years of infrastructure investments and private equity experience. Prior to Equis, Mr. Yang was a Vice President of Macquarie Funds Group based in Abu Dhabi, where he was responsible for asset acquisitions in the Middle East and North Africa region for the ADCB Macquarie Infrastructure Fund. Prior to this role, Mr. Yang was based in the Seoul office of Macquarie Group where he executed a number of landmark transactions for, and the listing of, the Macquarie Korea Infrastructure Fund.
Mr. Yang has a Bachelor of Economics from Seoul National University. He is fluent in English and Korean.
Mr. Lim joined Equis in 2012. He has over 12 years of investment and advisory experience across Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the United States. Prior to joining Equis, he was a Consultant at Thomson Reuters in New York responsible for identifying and evaluating investments in the Americas. Prior to Thomson Reuters, Mr. Lim worked as an Associate at CCMP Capital Asia, a pan-Asian private equity fund, where he was responsible for investments in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to that, Mr. Lim was an Executive in the investment banking division at Macquarie Group.
Mr. Lim holds a Bachelor of Commerce (First Class Honours in Actuarial Studies) from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Business Administration (Finance & Management) from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.
Mr. Chen joined Equis in 2012. He has over 12 years’ experience in infrastructure advisory and financing across Southeast Asia, China and the Middle East. Prior to Equis, Mr. Chen was an Associate Director with Standard Chartered Bank where he was responsible for advising clients on M&A transactions and arranging debt in the private and public markets. He has executed over US$5 billion worth of M&A transactions in the Asian power space. Prior to Standard Chartered, Mr. Chen was an analyst with Lazard Asia.
Mr. Chen holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
